Boxmoor Golf Club Captain 2007 Mr Glyn Evans
|
I consider myself to be honoured and privileged to be the Captain of one of the country’s oldest golf clubs and look forward immensely but with a little trepidation to the challenges of the year ahead. My chosen
charity for the year is I would like to offer a challenge to all golfers to come and experience and even try and conquer Boxmoor. Our oldest member John Duffy is 82 has been trying for more years than anyone can remember and has never been able to but he is still tries. Like most 9
hole courses, Boxmoor is not usually the obvious choice for golfers seeking
to challenge their golfing ability however whilst its heathland links lack
length, the course (Par 62 off the daily tees) is extremely challenging and
unforgiving to those who stray from the straight and narrow. The difficulty
of the course is evidenced by the 188 yard 3rd hole, Burywood
which has never been aced from the medal tee and only once from the forward
daily tee. This hole is listed number 87 in the book of I look forward to meeting as many visitors as I can during the year and hopefully some having experienced the uniqueness of the course will become members. Captain 2007
